Pareto Chart

What is a pareto chart?

A pareto chart is a column or bar chart showing a count of something in decreasing order. This is what is used on the first axis. The second axis shows the percent fo the total. It can be used to show the percent of variances contributing to the overall difference.

468x60

Example: Let's say you have collected the number of variances of why a patient who was ready for discharge did not leave on time. You can count each type, put them in descending order, then create the line graph on the second y-axis. You will be able to see that a majority of the variance is caused by only a few reasons.

Here is an example on Wikipedia.
